MARKET INFORMATION:      

  

 

Grains futures were mixed Monday in early trading on the Chicago Board of Trade.

Wheat for July delivery rose 1.25 cent to $6.82 a bushel; July corn rose 5 cents to $6.60 a bushel; July oats were flat at $3.995 a bushel; while July soybeans fell 11.5 cents to $15.05 a bushel.

Beef and pork prices were mixed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

August live cattle fell 0.07 cent to $1.1825 a pound; August feeder cattle added 0.30 cent to $1.4370 a pound; July lean hogs rose 0.10 cent to 98.12 cents a pound.

USDA Farm Service Agency announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 39 Iowa counties as part of a Presidential Major Disaster Designation.  Eligible family farmers with qualifying production and physical losses caused by severe storms, straight-line winds, and flooding from April 17, 2013 through April 30, 2013 may be eligible for low-interest emergency loans. The Fremont County Extension and Outreach office in Sidney will test your dial presser canner free of charge during office hours Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.  For more information, please call 712-374-2351.

The Nomination period for this year's County Committee election will begin on June 17, 2013.  the nomination period continues through August 1, 2013 with elections taking place this fall.  To learn more about the County Committee elections and other programs administered by FSA, contact your local county offfice or visit www.fsa.usda.gov.

 

The Fremont/Mills County Women, Land and Legacy (WLL) committee will sponsoring an event that will help participants make decisions about what to buy or grow to reap the benefits of fresh fruit and vegetables on Monday, June 17th at 6 pm at the Tabor Community Center.   Please RSVP by Thursday, June 13th by calling 712-624-8616.

Montgomery county 4-H Summer Robotics Camp will be Monday, June 24th through Friday, June 28th between 9 am and 3 pm each day.  The 5-day camp will be at the Red Oak Fairgrounds and the 3-day camp will be at the Villisca Community Building Workshop.  For more information or registration forms, please stpo at the Montgomery County Extension Office in Red Oak.

 

 

The ISU Extension Nutrition and Health Program Specialist will conduct a "Safe Food" class on Thursday, June 27th between 2 and 4:30 pm at the ISU Extension and Outreach, Fremont County office in Sidney.  Deadline for registration is June 23rd, by calling 712-374-2351. 

 

 

ISU Extension & Outreach will sponsor "Powerful Tools for Caregivers" classes every Monday for 6 weeks beginning on July 8th between 6:30 pm and 9 pm at the Montgomery County Extension Office in Red Oak.  To register, please call 712-623-2592 before July 1st. 

 

 

The ISU Extension & Outreach - Fremont County will sponsor a New Fitness Program "Life Classes" for older adults age 60 and older will be held Tuesday and Thursdays between 5 and 6 pm  through July 11th at the Park Washington Plaza Community Room in Hamburg and will begin on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 and  11 am through July 22nd in Sidney.  A location is yet to be determined.  Pre-registration is required by calling ISU Extension & Outreach - Fremont County at 712-374-2351.  Classes are filed on a first come / first serve basis.

 

Fremont County 4-H Robotics Summer Camps will be August 5th thru 7th for 3rd and 4th graders and will be held on August 8th thru 10th for 5th, 6th and 7th graders.  Both camps will be held at the Sidney Elementary Building Cowboy Cafe between 9 am and 3 pm each day.  Students will learn how to build and program NXT Robots.  Register ASAP for they only have room for the first 20 youths.  Visit www.extension.iastate.edu/fremont/node/17770  for registration form or stop by the Fremont County Extension Office in Sidney.

 

 

FSA announced the restart of sign up for continuous CRP, including the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement Initiative (SAFE), Highly Erodible Land Initiative, Westland Restoration Initiative, Pollinator Habitat Initiative, Upland Bird Habitat Buffer Initiative and Duck Nesting Habitat Initiative, will continue through September 30, 2013.

Iowa Farm Service Agency reminds Conservation Reserve Program participants to schedule maintenance and mangement activites on CRP acres outside of the primary nesting season.  Iowa's primary nesting season begins on May 15, 2013, and continues through August 1. 2013.  For more information , visit your local FSA office or visit fsa.usda.gov.

 

 

 

Starting May 1st the Page County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will accept applications for cover crop.  This is a great opportunity for Page County producers to introduce and experiment with cover crop in their farming operation.  The cover crop provide great benefits through soil health, soil fertility, soil erosion reduction and extended pasture rest/grazing.  Page County producers interested in using cover crops as a conservation practice on their land can sign up for cost share funds through the State of Iowa IFIP program.  If you have any questions, please contact the Page SWCD Field Office at 712-542-5484 ext. 3.

 

  

USDA's Iowa Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers that in order to receive payments from USDA, compliance with Highly Erodible Land Conservation (HELC) and Wetland Conservation (WC) provisions are required.

 Dollars are available to assist with care of your well.  The DNR provides these funds to assist with well testing, closure, & reconstruction.  Water test kits and applications are available at your County Public Health Offices.
