(Bartlett) -- A Council Bluffs man was killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash along Interstate 29 in Fremont County, which remains closed due to flooding.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 63-year-old Noelio Orihuela of Bennett, Colorado was operating a 2001 Kenworth semi near the 25 mile marker of I-29 -- located near Bartlett -- at around 5:47 p.m. The patrol says Orihuela was driving north in the southbound lanes while working in a construction area. The semi driver then attempted to crossover to the other side of the interstate and collided with a pickup in the northbound lanes, driven by 24-year-old Vincent Flanagan of Council Bluffs. The patrol's report did not clarify why Flanagan was traveling along the closed interstate.
Upon impact, Flanagan's 2014 Dodge pickup began to roll and came to rest on its top. Flanagan was killed in the crash, while Orihuela was not hurt. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
The Fremont County Sheriff's Office and multiple first responders assisted at the scene.
