(Clarinda) -- Southwest Iowa Families is calling its recent fundraiser a big success.

The Clarinda-based non-profit held its annual Sip 'n Stroll over the weekend at the Page County Fairgrounds in Clarinda. Administrative Director Sandy Geer tells KMA News hundreds of people took part in the event.

"We had about 350 people attend," Geer said. "It seemed like everyone really enjoyed the Dueling Pianos. I believe there were 51 different flavors of wine, beer and hard cider. I think people really got to taste a lot of different things that are made right here in Iowa and had a really good time."

Geer says all proceeds will go to the Nest Program at Southwest Iowa Families. Approximately $6,000 was raised from Saturday's fundraiser.

"It's just awesome to see that we live in such a generous community," Geer said. "When people come out and support the events that we do, then we're able to turn around and support the lives of children and families in our community."

"That $6,000 will last about eight months in the Nest Program," she added, "as far as purchasing car seats, cribs, mattresses, diapers, wipes and all the things necessary for parents when they're raising young babies."

This year's Sip 'n Stroll was the third put on by Southwest Iowa Families. Geer believes it was the best one yet.

"The first year we had a larger attendance, but we didn't have folks stay around," Geer said. "This year the attendance may have been down, but people stayed around with the Dueling Pianos. Also, this year we went out and asked for sponsorships to cover some of the expenses. That helped a lot on the revenue end of the thing."

And, Geer says the event wouldn't have been possible without all of the volunteers who pitched in and lent a hand.

"A special thanks goes out to my husband, some friends that helped out, of course the staff here at Southwest Iowa Families, and the KMA staff," Geer said. "It takes everybody to make a successful event."
