(Council Bluffs) -- Another prolific goal scorer enters the KMA Sports Hall of Fame in the 2018-19 class.
Former Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson star Samantha Arnold scored over 100 goals in her incredible career.
“I remember all the teammates the most,” Arnold told KMA Sports. “My favorite memory was beating Lewis Central and nut-megging the goalkeeper in overtime.”
Arnold set Thomas Jefferson’s scoring record with 17 goals as a freshman, 21 goals in her sophomore season, 34 as a junior and then 30 in her senior season.
“I practiced a lot and played over in Des Moines on a club team,” Arnold said. “The (club coach) guided me and instructed me really well to build me up and make me a stronger player. I was pretty much a finesse player, so when I was going to take a shot I was looking to put it into the back of the net.”
Arnold says reaching 100 goals for her career (she had 102 overall) was an important milestone to her.
“In basketball season, when I was in high school, there was a school that had a player trying to reach 1,000 points. I thought that was really exciting, and her team was really excited for her. It was a big community support thing.
“So, when I did well my freshman year, I wondered if I could make it to 100 goals. I just kind of shot for that, and when we got close my senior year, everybody knew what was going on. We were kind of all shooting for that.”
Arnold went on to play at Augustana before transferring to and finishing her soccer career at Buena Vista.
The former Thomas Jefferson star joins fellow Council Bluffs native Abby Schlater (St. Albert) and former Glenwood coach Mike Artist in the soccer wing of the KMA Sports Hall of Fame.
