(KMAland) -- For the second time this week, our KMA Sports Hall of Famer could easily be honored for their elite play in two sports.
Former Red Oak star Kara Paul was a two-time All-State player in both basketball and volleyball during her record-breaking career as a Tiger. However, it was volleyball where Paul led her team to two state runner-up finishes.
"They were great experiences," Paul said of their trips to state. "The first year we went, and we weren't expected to do much. The second year, we were rated No. 1, and we had all expectations to win it. We didn't do it, but it was a great experience."
Paul played at Red Oak for KMA Sports Hall of Fame coach Angie Spangenberg.
"A fantastic coach," Paul said. "I was blessed to have her as my coach and advance me as a player. She was definitely tough, but she was an excellent coach and put a lot of time into the game. We had a lot of fun with her."
Paul, who went on to play basketball at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, says some of her top memories from her volleyball career came off the court.
"We spent a lot of time on the court together," Paul said, "but the majority of our time was spent off the court together. I remember our preseason workouts, which consisted of a lot of court time and pool conditioning at the Red Oak pool."
Paul will be inducted into the KMA Sports Hall of Fame at a later date to be determined. Listen to the full interview with Paul here.
A KMA Sports Hall of Fame announcement will be made on Upon Further Review at 11:50 AM each weekday until August 28th.
