(KMAland) -- A state cross country champion from Essex, three-time All-American at Iowa State and former Olympian is Monday's KMA Sports Hall of Fame inductee.

Suzanne Youngberg-Rigg started her brilliant running career in Essex, eventually winning the 1980 state cross country championship.

"I think that was one of the highlights of my entire running career," Youngberg said on Monday's Upon Further Review. "Winning that state meet in high school as a junior, and holding that trophy almost as big as I was, was really a highlight."

Youngberg, who finished second the following year, went on to earn three All-American honors at Iowa State and eventually found her way to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

"I guess it sort of happened over time," said Youngberg, who ran for Great Britain in the women's marathon race. "It was step-by-step. As I got better and better doors would open up, and then I would train hard and the next one would appear. I would have never imagined, when I was in Essex, that I would be running for Great Britain."

She didn't really know she would run for anything early in her high school career at Essex. Youngberg ran on the streets of her hometown before an opportunity to train in Shenandoah came.

"Essex didn't have a cross country team," she said. "I was the only one that wanted to run. Shenandoah agreed that I could come train with their team. That was just so kind of the schools, coaches and the girls on the team to have somebody from the outside come in and train with them."

Youngberg will be inducted into the KMA Sports Hall of Fame at a later date to be determined. To listen to the complete interview click here.

A KMA Sports Hall of Fame announcement will be made on Upon Further Review at 11:50 AM each weekday until August 28th.
