(Oakland) -- KMA Sports is spending the month of August announcing our latest and third class of the KMA Sports Hall of Fame.

Today’s announcement comes from Riverside, where 2013 Bulldog graduate Ricky Williams finished a prolific career at the state tournament.

“The year before we came in as freshmen, they went 1-21,” Williams remembered. “The thing I loved was – the group of guys I was with, I’d played basketball with them since I was a little kid.”

Williams was the leader of that group, scoring nearly 2,000 points, grabbing over 1,200 rebounds, blocking 180 shots and passing out nearly 140 assists in a four-year career that saw the Bulldogs win 66 games and advance to the state tournament in 2013.

“Being able to go to the state tournament by my senior year kind of showed our friendship and bond that had grown over the years,” Williams said.

Williams continually added to his skills and honed additional elements of his game, which made him nearly impossible to stop in the Western Iowa Conference.

“Everyone has to put in the offseason work,” Williams said. “I remember going in around 5 AM before football workouts to work on basketball during the summers. I played for the Iowa Barnstormers, so I would drive to Iowa City for practice.

“On top of that, we’d drive to Vegas and Indianapolis and all over. I need to thank my parents for always driving me. They got me to where I was.”

Williams joins Tri-Center’s Cary Cochran and Clarinda’s BJ Windhorst in the men’s basketball wing of the KMA Sports Hall of Fame. The former Bulldog star will be inducted at a later date to be determined.
